Department of Zoology

Home Departments Zoology

Department has a history of 75 years. It began in 1943 as Biology Department and founder head was Dr. B. S. Kaushik. Independent first batch of Bsc with Zoology came out in 1947 under headship of Sri Kailash Kishore Verma. In 1958 our Ist PG Batch came out with Fish and Fishery specialization. Entomology was added in 2001. Cytogenetics, Environmental biology and Endocrinology were introduced in headship of dr. Arun Asthana in 2002. In 2018 Parasitology is introduced in the headship of Dr. Pankaj Tandon and by this step our department became one and only department having six specialisations and yet there is no other zoology department at least in this University. In 2020 one Diploma course on freshwater Pisciculture started under UGC- NSQF Scheme by the department and Ist batch of Diploma course is successfully completed in year 2022.
Department has one of the oldest and richest Animal museum in Kanpur University.
Department gives every year many Net-JRF qualified students. Our passed out students [allumni] are working in administration, Education, Research institutes and other fields.
